Nice Weekend

I had a good weekend. My son had a friend over for a play-date and I made chocolate chip cookies with my youngest. My oldest doesn’t like chocolate chip cookies for some reason, so I’m glad I have someone to share that with. We then did a family walk Sunday morning. There was a slight chill in the air, but it wasn’t too bad. My boys are good walkers, although the youngest gets upset if I get out of sight. It can be amusing and annoying at the same time.

On Friday I went with my youngest sons pre-school group to a field trip at the library. When it was story time, another kid I was watching sat on my lap, so my son got jealous, then he had to sit on my lap. Then another girl sat on my lap, so I have three preschoolers on my lap at once. I won’t lie that I wasn’t worried about potty-training skills. I saw the same kids today when I dropped my son off at school, and they talked to me and wanted me to get them books. It’s always a good feeling when kids like you, you must be alright.

I was also able to get several listings done on my Zibbet and Etsy account this weekend as well. I finally heard back on a pre-made banner, so expect a Halloween theme in the next couple of days. I even did some cleaning, but that’s a must with a family of four. The weekends when nothing are planned are my favorite weekends, it’s nice to rest and take it easy with the family.

Slowing of the Blog

Yes, I know, I haven’t been posting regularly, and truth be told I won’t be. My youngest is in preschool for a couple of hours and my oldest is at school all day, but I don’t have any extra time. The two hours of “freedom” are spent running errands or cleaning, or arguing with someone about something. I was talking to a member at one of the clinics about how I was arguing with another person and she said as a mother of a special needs child to get used to it.

I would love the Julia Roberts or Sandra Bullock movie moment, you know the one. The always look great, busty, not a hair out-of-place as they tell so-and-so off. It’s worded perfectly, and the person told off doesn’t argue. They agree, and help our plucky heroine. It doesn’t work like that in real life, they barely want to help you at all, and if you piss them off that little bit of help is gone, it’s frustrating.

So, this weekend I’m getting some extended family time, and it should be nice. I don’t plan on arguing with anyone.

Nothing too Important

The rain is falling and I’m waiting for my youngest to return from school. My youngest is napping, so I get a moment to myself. A couple of random thoughts.

I have never read, Eat, Pray, Love, but it strikes me as very self-centered woman and book. I’m okay with finding yourself, but shouldn’t you do that before you marry? Instead, she divorces, eats well, and finds herself. Also, I’m not sure why finding yourself you always end up with another man and great sex. This further enhances the stereotype of “great sex” fixing all of a woman’s problems. It helped Stella get her groove back, in the book at least. The real life “Stella,” not so much, but I digress.

Celebrities are really out of touch. It’s fine it you have money, I wish I had money, but some of the advice they give to the normal joe is out of touch. Most of the diets they advise I can’t afford. I’m trying to stretch my food budget, I can’t afford a totally vegan or microbiotic diet. I do eat local and do what I can, but salmon is an occasional treat, for example. Plus that, my kids don’t even like it, so it’s more of a treat for me. I also don’t cook it that well, I wish I had a celebrity cook, and a trainer, but I don’t. Until I can afford one I don’t need your advise about how to live better. I’m pretty happy, thank you. Don’t get me started on the parenting and breastfeeding advice, I’m doing mine without a nanny.

Complicated

At some point, at some time, your life becomes complicated. It doesn’t announce yourself, you just think of all the things you have to do and get a mild anxiety attack. In my case, school is starting soon, which is good news. The bad news is there are forms I need to get, copies of dr. reports, school supplies, and meet-and-greets. Also, I wasn’t sure which school my youngest was going to a week before, as I got notice from two schools that he was accepted. Yes, one was in error, but I’m just saying it’s nice to know for sure which school you son is going to attend. So, extra work had to be done by me to contact the school to clarify, and messages where left. I’m still waiting for a call-back on one, but odds are more follow-up will need to be done on my part.

Complicated is a building action, and there are valleys and peaks. Sometimes life flows smoothly, not a lot of thought needed, than “complicated” strikes. Arguing with an insurance company? Arguing with a government agency? Oh, the fun of it all. Hopefully afterwords all is fixed, but sometimes not. If you can find a spouse to do the complicated stuff in life, by all means let him/her do it. I am the one that does it, and hands a form to my husband to tell him to sign this. If you’re single, good luck, complicated is all yours, but on the bright side you don’t have to handle the complicated for the whole family.

So, I’ve been busy getting these things taken care of. I’m not complaining, I’m just looking forward to the point where my life is in a valley. Also, totally off topic, but if you’re over 40 and “awesome” is still a part of your vocabulary, I wonder about you…

A Question and a Goal Made

So, when you’re out with people, what is the texting etiquette? You’re eating, talking, drinking, and they are texting. Is this okay? I’m not offended, it was a group, so it wasn’t like I was the only one talking and being boring. It was a couple of short texts, then back to the conversation. I don’t mean this negative at all, but is this okay? I don’t have a cell phone, so those that do, what are the texting rules? I wish to learn.

On a couple of side notes, my Etsy store has hit 100 sales. It was my goal to hit 100 by the end of the year, so I did it a bit early, which is fine. I then had another quick sale, so I’m actually at 101 as I type. Also, my Zibbet store had a sale, so I’m seeing some growth there.

With the kids being at home this summer, I had to cut back on listing and finding new items. That’s the joy of working for oneself, it’s my schedule. Trying to run to the post office with two young kids can be challenging. In a couple of weeks it’s back to school, so this should free up some time. I will also be able to clean more without the kids underfoot, another bonus. It’s not that I like cleaning, it just harder to do when you have a kid that wants to play Memory Match or is terrified of the vacuum.

Saturday Night

There used to be a time, when being “in” on Saturday would be something to be embarrassed about. Then, I got married, had kids, and am usually “in” on Saturdays. However, I have no kids tonight. We won a trip to an indoor water park through a school raffle. It was originally going to be my husband taking two of my oldest son’s friends, since that was how we won the raffle. However, one friend couldn’t go, so my husband it taking both of our sons.

I don’t have big plans, but I went and ate Mexican food. I never get to eat Mexican food, my family is super picky. As I get older I like bolder flavors, but I’m the only one in the family that does. So, since it was just me I went to a restaurant. It was a last-minute deal. I did think of getting together with friends, but I’m going out on Wed. and Thurs. already with friends. This is something that happens as you get older, weekends are for families, weeknights are for friends. You still have fun, it just shifts nights.

Eating along has never bothered me either, but I know it does bothers some people. I used to wait tables, and there have been plenty of times when people eat alone. Trust me, you’re not the only one. I had a good book, and a good night. I then plan on doing some blogging and Etsy stuff. It’s easier to do without kids asking you what you’re doing. I’m on the computer, what does it look like I’m doing? I’ll enjoy my night off, it’s back to mommy in the morning.

My Stupid Day

Yesterday started out so bright, actually it was very hot, but for the sake of the story I want to set a Disney theme. The birds were singing, I put a pie on the windowsill to cool, and talked to the chirping songbirds. I then logged onto my Etsy account, and came across someone selling my black cat avatar that I have on my ModredVintage business as a pendant.

I was upset that someone was making money off of it. I had bought that avatar and banner as a unique one-of-a kind item. It was mine, he wasn’t meant to be worn around your neck. He was the black cat of vintage, ok, why vintage needs a black cat is questionable, but he was MY black cat. I asked a couple of people how best to handle this, and was informed to nicely ask the person to take it down, but also nicely threaten.

So, I e-mailed the person and nicely told them it’s mine, take it down. The person responded back, nicely considered the fact I was accusing her of profiting from me, that uh no, it’s been out there for a while and people have had the image before I did. She even had several links to back her up, links that I had somehow missed. I apologized and slunk off.

So, my one of a kind image isn’t one of a kind. So, it appears some graphic artists cut and paste, nice to know. I was able to get a banner for the size I wanted, and still like my cat, so I’ll keep it. If you want to use it apparently you can, I can’t stop you. If you’re also interested in a black cat pendant to match it I know where you can get one.

Hell’s Kitchen

As you know, I’ve been on vacation and unable to see Hell’s Kitchen. Thanks to Wikipedia I have learned that Ed is no longer on the show. He started off strong, and he was my early favorite. I usually pick and like the winner, but not this time. I really have no preference among the remaining four, and am indifferent towards the winner.

This is what happens when I go on vacation…curses.

Exercise and Weight

To all you skinny women who can eat without gaining weight, I just want to say I resent you. I have a friend who has only gained 5 pounds her entire life, and doesn’t exercise. I listen to her complain about these 5 pounds that I can’t even see, and tell her she’s fine. My truth is, if I don’t exercise, I gain weight. Even if I drank nothing but water, my body wants to gain weight. The only way for me to fight it is to exercise.

I don’t like working out, but have come to accept it is what I must do. Sometimes I take time off, thinking this time it will be different, but no, the weight comes back. I could eat healthier, more fruits and vegetables, won’t argue that point. However, I don’t consume massive amounts of calories and tend to stay around the daily calorie limit advised. I might be fine for a while, but at some point I start to gain weight.

Losing weight also becomes harder as you age, just to warn you young people out there. I remember being a teen-ager and skipping a meal and losing 5 pounds. I also shudder to think what this did to my metabolism, which might be why I need to exercise or I gain weight. I’ve gained/lost weight several times. I had a doctor tell me I was fat. Most doctors aren’t that blunt, and I wasn’t fat, I was overweight. I lost weight, but again, unless you do a lifestyle change you will gain it back. Losing weight is easy, keeping it off is the hard part.

So, I’m off to work out this afternoon. I had a nice vacation and got to eat out a lot. I even got dessert, and had some yummy cake. Fortunately, the vacation weight gain seems to be receding, but again, I have to work out, or else it will be another visit on the ever increasing scale.

Glad to be Home

Well, I made it home. I had a great trip, saw some great people, and held an adorable baby. What could be better? We did a lot of driving, but saw a lot of beautiful mountains. I’ve posted some lovely nature pictures on my blogspot blog. I started missing the kids towards the end of the trip, thankfully they were in good hands. It’s nice to get back home and spend time with them. I wish I had something clever to say, but I really don’t. This is just a quick update, I’m back to business as usual.
